SUBJ: IPS WEEKLY GEOPHYSICAL REPORT
ISSUED ON 28 DECEMBER 2006, BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES,
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE

1. SUMMARY (19 DECEMBER - 27 DECEMBER)
K indices are in UT (0-24). For conversion to local time:
AEST = UT + 10 hours; ACST = UT + 9.5 hours; AWST = UT + 8 hours
        Australian Region*

The geomagnetic activity stayed mostly at quiet to active
levels for the first three days of this period due to the
effect of the high speed solar wind stream from a coronal
hole. The activity level then gradually declined to mostly
quiet and stayed at this level for most part of the remaining
period.

2. FORECAST (28 DECEMBER - 27 JANUARY)
Disturbed Periods:
Unsettled to active from 03 to 04 January, 16 to 19 January and on
23 January.

Best Quiet Periods:
 28 December to 01 January, 05 January, 09 January, 13 to 14 January,
 20 to 22 January,

3. FORECAST FOR HIGH RESOLUTION AEROMAGNETIC SURVEYS

Northern Australian Regions:
 Disturbed Periods: None.
Best Quiet Periods: 28 Dec to 8 Jan, 12 Jan to 22 Jan.

Central Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: 6 Jan, 8 Jan to 11 Jan, 15 Jan, 18 Jan to 19 Jan.
Best Quiet Periods: 28 Dec to 31 Dec, 22 Jan.

Southern Australian Regions:
Disturbed Periods: 9 Jan to 11 Jan.
Best Quiet Periods: 28 Dec to 31 Dec, 21 Jan to 22 Jan.

Pc3 pulsations are high frequency (10-45 second period) variations
of the Earths magnetic field. Daily pc3-indices are the daily sum of
20 minute pc3-indices for that station and have been shown to be well
correlated with rejection of high resolution aeromagnetic survey
flight-line data.
