ISSUED ON 29 AUGUST 2002, BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES,
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE

1. SUMMARY (20 AUGUST - 28 AUGUST)

 26 Aug 2333 3533 18 A weak (18nT) impulse was
observed in the IPS magnetomter data at 1131UT on
26 Aug, and a weak (30nT) impulse was observed at
 1530UT on 26 Aug.
 27 Aug 3333 3223 13
 28 Aug 2232 1123 8

*estimated from real time data

The minor storm periods observed on 21 August
were due to sustained period of mildly southward
inter-planetary magnetic field. The southward IMF
might have been caused by flare/CME activity
around that period. Geomagnetic activity reached
upto active level on 22 August, most likely due
to the CME activity. Minor storm periods, observed
on 26 August, also seem to be a result of the CME
activities observed in the previous few days.

2. FORECAST (29 AUGUST - 28 SEPTEMBER)
Disturbed Periods: 8-9 Sept., 11-18 Sept., 24 Sept.

Best Quiet Periods: 29 Aug.- 4 Sept., 19-21 Sept.

PEASE NOTE:
At this time of the solar cycle, space weather conditions
are frequently determined by short timescale events, not
able to be forecasted a week in advance.
