[ips-sf] IPS Summary Forecast for 26 December - issued 2351UT/25-Dec-2015 [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

rwc rwc at ips.gov.au
Sat Dec 26 10:51:46 EST 2015

Solar activity during the past 24 hours was at low levels with only
C-class flares. A coronal mass ejection (CME) that was observed
starting around 24/0636 UT associated with eruption from Region 2473
(S16E38) may cause a glancing blow at Earth on early UT day 27
December. The solar winds are moderately elevated and currently near
500 km/s. These solar winds are the possible lingering effect of a
southern hemisphere coronal hole. A favourable IMF Bz condition may
lead to aurora sightings from Tasmania during the local night of 26
Dec. Conditions for HF radio wave propagation are good and MUFs are
slightly higher than the predicted monthly values.
