Geomagnetic activity has been at Active to Minor Storm levels over the
past day due to a CME impact. This has impacted the density of
electrons in the ionosphere and negatively affected conditions for HF
communications. Conditions in southern Australia, possibly extending
as far north as Sydney, are expected to continue for be affected over
the next 24 hours, with a reduction in the maximum useable frequency
of up to 30%. Geomagnetic conditions are settling and HF conditions
should return to normal within the next 36-48 hours. A large M2 class
flare was observed on the Eastern limb of the Sun. This did not cause
an Earthward directed CME however this region will be rotating into a
more geo-effective location in the coming days and has the potential
to produce more significant activity should it flare again.
