[ips-sf] IPS Summary Forecast for 18 May - issued 2328UT/17-May-2013

rwc rwc at ips.gov.au
Sat May 18 09:28:51 EST 2013

Moderate flare activity expected 18-May, with further flare potential
from solar active region 1748, the source of four X-class and one
M-class flare over the last week. Further fadeouts are possible.
High-frequency radio communications are mostly normal in the Aus/NZ
region, and poor at high latitudes due to polar cap absorption
affecting lower frequencies. Two Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are
expected to arrive in the next two days, one today (18-May) and a more
significant one tomorrow (19-May) that may produce Minor Storm
geomagnetic conditions, with isolated Major Storm periods at high
latitudes possible.
