SUBJ: IPS GEOMAGNETIC DISTURBANCE WARNING 02/09
ISSUED AT 19/0235Z MARCH 2002
BY THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE.

A MASS EJECTION OBSERVED ON LATE 15/EARLY 16 MARCH 
IMPACTED THE EARTH AT AROUND 1323UT ON 18 MARCH. 
HOWEVER, THE NORTH-SOUTH COMPONENT OF THE INTERPLANETARY 
FIELD HAS REMAINED MOSTLY NORTHWARD FOLLOWING IMPULSE AND
GEOMAGNETIC EFFECTS HAVE SO FAR BEEN SLIGHT. 

ANOTHER MASS EJECTION WAS OBSERVED ON EARLY
18 MARCH AND IS EXPECTED TO CAUSE A MODERATE
DISTURBANCE STARTING LATE 19/EARLY 20 MARCH.

INCREASED GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY EXPECTED
FROM 19-20 MARCH 2002
