SUBJ: IPS GEOMAGNETIC DISTURBANCE WARNING 01/21
ISSUED AT 09/2350Z JUNE 2001
BY THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE.

SOLAR WIND SPEED HAS INCREASED FROM 400 TO 600KM/SEC
OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS AS THE EARTH ENTERED A CORONAL 
HOLE SOLAR WIND STREAM. THE NORTH SOUTH COMPONENT OF THE 
INTERPLANETARY MAGNETIC FIELD (Bz) HAS FLUCTUATED SOUTHWARD 
(5 to 10nT) OVER PAST 24 HOURS. 

ACTIVE PERIODS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED IN THE GEOMAGNETIC
FIELD SINCE AROUND 12UT ON 09 JUNE.

THERE IS A CHANCE THAT MINOR STORM PERIODS MAY BE EXPERIENCED 
DURING LOCAL NIGHT HOURS IF Bz AGAIN FLUCTUATES SOUTHWARD.

MILDLY INCREASED GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY EXPECTED FROM 10-11 JUNE 2001

	 declining to quiet conditions.
