SUBJ: IPS GEOMAGNETIC DISTURBANCE WARNING 01/30
ISSUED AT 25/2340Z AUGUST 2001
BY THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE.

AN X5.3 XRAY FLARE WAS OBSERVED OBSERVED 1645UT 25 AUG.
FLARE WAS CME ASSOCIATED. THE CME WAS HEAVILY BIASED
TO THE SOUTH-EAST OF THE SOLAR DISK. HOWEVER, EMMISION
WAS STILL OBSERVED ENCIRCLING THE SOLAR DISK, IMPLYING
THAT SOME COMPONENT OF THE CME SHOULD REACH THE EARTH.

INCREASED GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY EXPECTED
FROM 27-28 AUGUST 2001 DUE TO MASS EJECTON AND CORONAL HOLE

GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY FORECAST 

27 Aug:  Initially at unsettled-active levels for first half
         of UT day. A shock is expected during second half of UT
         day from the mass ejction, with the field increasing to 
         minor storm levels post shock. There is a chance for 
         isolated major storm periods.

28 Aug:  active declining activity late in UT day.
