SUBJ: SWS AURORA OUTLOOK
ISSUED AT 0447 UT ON 13 May 2019 by Space Weather Services
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE

Two slow moving CMEs originating from disappearing solar filaments are
expected to impact the Earth around 05UT on 15 May and 09UT on 16 May,
respectively. The CMEs originated from towards the centre of the
visible solar disk and hence the likelihood of impact at Earth is
high. Slow moving solar filaments are often associated with sustained
periods of southward IMF which are conducive to aurora activity and
hence there is an increased chance of auroral activity from 15 May.
Should periods of sustained southward IMF occur, auroral displays over
southern Australian regions are likely, particularly for Tasmania.
Further Warnings and/or alerts will follow if a geoeffective CME is
observed and/or significant geomagnetic activity actually occurs.
