SUBJ: IPS AURORA WATCH
ISSUED AT 0504 UT ON 01 Mar 2016 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE

The earth is currently under the influence of a co-rotating
interaction regions (CIR) associated with a northern hemisphere
coronal hole. The high speed streams following the CIR is expected to
elevate the solar winds to moderate levels within the next 6 hours.
Therefore, on UT day 1 March, active geomagnetic conditions and at
times possibly reaching minor storm levels are expected. There is a
chance that aurora may be visible from high magnetic latitudes regions
of Australia, including Tasmania and southern parts of Victoria, at
the local night of 1st March. The impact of coronal hole effects is
dependent how IMF Bz is orientated. A prolonged southward Bz will lead
to strong aurora.
