SUBJ: IPS AURORA WATCH
ISSUED AT 0630 UT ON 30 Apr 2014 BY IPS RADIO AND SPACE SERVICES
FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SPACE FORECAST CENTRE

Aurora may be visible during early to mid evening hours of 30th April
at the most southern latitudes in the Australasian sector (e.g.
Tasmania and New Zealand South Island).

This is due to an extended period (12 hours and still ongoing at
0630UT) of strong southward Interplanetary Magnetic Field. This
southward direction merges
strongly with the northward geomagnetic field to expand and energise
the auroral oval. The field will likely return to normal in the next
few hours and the aurora
are not likely to last all night.
